wifo -- That's a nice Tesla... you've captured the spirit of the new Jefferson nickels all the way down to the cursive signature

unknown -- both clever and nicely photoshopped... that's a nice sculpted/carved look.

Thanks! I had a question I'm not sure if missed it, but are we allowed more than one entry?

For my entry I just took the literal meaning and found my favorite hobo picture from google, and used Photoshop Cs5 to remove Jefferson's head and turn my photo into a metallic looking object and just layered it back onto the nickel.

sure, multiple entries are okay... just remember the three prizes will go to three different CCF members... but show off your creativity!

captianwiffo, Great coin! Tesla is one of my favorite Super Scientists. At one time he was even blamed for the Tunguska explosion. They said it was caused by an experiment he did using the Wardenclyffe Tower.

As for Tunguska, I agree with the popular theory it was a air-burst of a comet. Most likely a piece of Comet 2005 NB56 http://arxiv.org/ftp/arxiv/papers/0...903.3313.pdf which makes it's next pass close to earth in 2045 and could cause another impact. If you don't have enough to worry about, take a look at NASA's Near Earth Object page at http://neo.jpl.nasa.gov/ I used to have a copy the Torino Scale on the wall of my office.

Cool idea for a Hobo.

I have to post one more entry. In 7 days the US will run out of money. I am a little more than worried that this will cause my Social Security payments to stop. If it does, my wife and I, along with millions of other Americans, will have nothing.

Something has to give or it's all going to collapse.

Yeah, he was always a hero of mine when I was younger. Then it occurred to me that some of his portraits would fit well on the modern Jefferson design. I would have liked to use something other than Wardenclyffe, which was a failure and really more of a monument to his eccentricity, but it worked so well design-wise. I couldn't really get the Colorado or New York labs to work.

yoko -- nice.. I saw the obverse and thought it matched your theme well, then I scrolled down to the reverse -- classic!

Hambone -- nice job. I'm currently out in East Texas where John Deeres are very precious indeed.

Decided I will throw one in here... Inspired by Hobo clowns making money on the streets. This one just happens to have a nice mustache.

Okay, everybody! I'm closing the entries in this contest. These are the contestants:

Wheezydog (Jeffishon Nickel)

Yokozuna (Felipe Massa) & (Debt Ceiling)

Earle42 (Willis Carrier)

upstate (Andy Warhol tribute)

Lion4Life (Hobo/Train) (uploaded version 2 on page 3)

Bluezone (Wheezydog)

unknown95 (Hobo with placard)

captainwifo (Tesla)

hambone (John Deere)

newbismatic (Hobo Clown)

Later today I will choose the 3 winners. As a review, the winners (to be chosen by me... perhaps with input from my wife) will be:
*The best design
*The best story from the remaining entries
*A random selection from the remaining entries

Thanks for participating. I expect to post winners later today, then I will contact winners for their addresses, and packages should be mailed on Monday morning.

Okay... here are the winners!

Best Design (or the one I liked best for whatever reason): Yokozuna (both designs were great, but the cleverness of the reverse of the debt ceiling nickel won it for you)

Best story behind the design: Bluezone (your wheezydog tribute was unbeatable)

And of the remaining entries, one was randomly chosen from a hermetically sealed mayonnaise jar on Funk & Wagnall's front porch (also known as: each member was assigned a random decimal in Excel and the highest value won). That winner was....

Lion4Life!

Thank you to everyone who participated. It was tough to pick winners. Your artwork was so individual and creative. I loved how the entries spanned the spectrum from digital to hand-drawn.

Congrats to the winners. PM me your addresses, though I will shoot you each a PM right now.
