As many of you may know, I have been on a mission filling out a Dansco 7070 type set album full of varieties - my EV7070.
As a result, I want to scale back on my excess and move it out. I have a small miscellaneous US coin collection. Not much, because before this I really on focused on Lincolns and world varieties. But, I have a pretty nice world collection.
I'm still going to keep my world core group and varieties as I think I have finally found my collecting "goals", but I want to give away the excess. There's some really nice stuff in there!
Anyway......I need an idea for a contest. We have a group of Mastermind players that I will hold a contest for. I will toss a small portion of the collection up for grabs in another safecracker game.
So, this is a contest for a contest idea. I want something along the puzzle/strategy/logic type of game. I like to challenge your melons to get my stuff. I have a silver piece or two of some sort that I'll throw up for grabs here.
So, give me some ideas. I gave a shot at Clue one time with mixed results. I think that one has potential, but needs to be thought out a little more.
I would also like to donate some of it to someone new to collecting who would appreciate a world "starter kit". If someone comes to mind that you would like to nominate, PM me with who you have in mind and why.
One suggestion per day. Don't go long-winded on rules just yet. If something pops up that sounds interesting, we'll get into the technicals.
Any questions?
Give me some ideas!

The best thing for that is an online scavenger hunt... you give your first clue on this paticular coin, place of orgin for the coin, why the coin has what design, what error is on this coin etc etc. You don't release the next question and clue until the first question is answered, the first correct answer wins and you award points to the person that gets the question right. You make 10 or 20 or 100 questions (depends on how long you want the contest to go) and award points based on diffucultly of the question. ( 1 point for an easy, 2 points for medium, and 3 points for hard try to keep them equal too.) Then after your questions are done you award a prize for first, and maybe more depending on how many people participate. Here is an example:
I was made from late 1942 to 1945, I am different than the rest of my brothers and sisters because I was only made in certain locations and I was made to help a cause. Name what coin I am, where I was minted and why I am different. (than you put the value on it) Once the correct answer is found you move to the next question. Hope you like the idea. It takes some work but it is fun for both the maker of the game and the players because you know the players are going to look things up so you can try to find stuff that is very hard to look up.

I like the simple ones: What was the speed limit when you got your first speeding ticket and how far above it were you going?

rkrj, I love the idea, but that require me actually knowing what I was talking about. I would make it to about clue 3. Moe, we cannot condone that type of behavior.

Quote: Moe, we cannot condone that type of behavior. Moe's Press Agent, when pressed for comment, released this statement: "Moe can neither confirm nor deny any prior knowledge of said alleged events, past, present or future without signed written consent of all parties involved and with all representational counsel present".

Than make it about clue three, just like scurry did with hockey. Maybe give us a little insight about clue 3, also like scurry did when he did his favorite team and which team he hates. Like a pre contest with a small prize to the actual contest with the better or bigger prize.

I don't know if this has been done before, or how well it would work. I call it - Post a Picture contest!
Can be done in two ways:
1)You're thinking of a pic, go find it. You probably want something that would spit a million results when searched on google images. And you add more clues everyday to narrow it down. 2) You name a coin, people post pics of it, and you pick the best one. You can do several rounds of it as well.
Of course, some pics online are copyrighted, so to get around it maybe people can post links to those pictures instead.

This probably isn't a good idea but,
I've been trying to think of a way to personalize a contest so that we get to know each other better. A name that CCF member type of contest. Clues periodically given about our collections, jobs, residence, hobbies, tendencies, names, age, stuff like that.Do a bunch of members and see who gets the most correct guesses.
Might be tough due to the anonymity of the internet but could be fun.

Great idea Scooby ... I am brain dead on a Friday night and have nothing to contribute other than my support and encouragement.

do you want it coin related or can it be random stuff? It is always fun to do screen grabs from movies or lines from songs and have people guess them (make them some personal favorites or ones that have meaning to you in your life for whatever reason). You could throw out a handful of movies or songs and make some of them more obscure stuff and some popular stuff to make it of varying difficulty.

I also used to enjoy the part in Games magazine where they would magnify something numerous times and show a picture of it (just a portion) and have you guess what the heck it was (then of course they would show the non-magnified picture on another page. Use to be fnu to do when I was younger.

I'm more of a logic/strategy/puzzle kind of guy. See Mastermind, Safecracker, Clue, Cryptoquotes, etc. in the previous contests.
I want to play a game that is somewhat familiar to everyone, but maybe with a twist.
