Just coming back from my lunch break I decide to look at the coins I got back in change and here is a 'S' mint marked Korean War $1 coin.

There is a nice gap filler that I didnt know I needed.
Thought I would share it with you

YAY!
Thanks for that!
I was rather happy to find that one in change!

Pity they charge $10 each now or else I would be putting more into circulation.

Yeah it is a genuine 'S' stamped so that makes me happier.
Pity it does have circulation marks though now I know that.
I am hoping to have a new macro lens for my camera soon so I will add pics if they are wanted.

For 2003 Mint Mark coins, there are 2 versions, and you need to know exactly what you're looking for. One type is done on a large press in Canberra, and the others are done on a portable (mobile) press at certain locations around Australia. With the portable type, the Mint Mark is added to an existing coin.

If the 'S' is just a raised 'S' on it's own, not inside a circle, you have a coin from the Main Presses in Canberrra. If the 'S' is inside a small incused circle, you have a Portable Press coin that had the 'S' added, most likely at the Royal Easter Show in 2003.

Gees, I hope I have that right, but if I'm wrong, someone will be sure to correct me.

life is a mystery to be lived not a problem to be solved

hi nancy both main press coin and mobile press coins had the sunken incuse mintmark, the mobile press generally had a weaker strike from lower pressure than main press
Mobiles were struck at Sydney ANDA on April 4 2003,Brisbane ANDA on May 23 2003 and Melbourne Royal Agriculture Show September 18 2003

The previous year,2002 outback mobiles were the first to have the incused mintmarks, the main press C had a raised mintmark. The S B and M mintmarks from the main press were incuse as well but had a stronger strike, this coin was circulated with no mintmark
