Some great pieces have been posted here since I last dropped by! The Wreath Crown is one of my 20th-century favorites...nice one, Rob!
Continuing my auction prep, I came across a half dozen Evasions I'd entirely forgotten about, and here's one of the scarcer ones in that group. Remember, everything about these was spurious or misleading so they couldn't "technically" be considered counterfeits. As with Canada's blacksmith tokens, the condition of this piece is typical for the whole category of evasion tokens or imitation regal coppers.
This halfpenny-sized -- but way underweight -- copper bears the imaginary likeness of Charles Fox, MP, on the obverse, paired with the North Wales crowned harp reverse. It's dated 1761, which was probably about four decades earlier than the year it was struck. Interestingly, the real Charles Fox, MP, turned 12 years old in 1761. Atkins 32

I like that Charles Fox "ha'penny". And that Wreath Crown's lovely. I've got one, 1933, one of the more common ones.

Another John add and quite a scarce mint. + WILLELM ON LE - Williem of Kings Lynn As I added this coin to my website page showing my medieval coins I thought it would be useful to me to create a couple of pages helping me to identify the class (and therefore ruler) short cross pennies fall into. There are a few fantastic websites out there going into the detail of class differences but this one is more of an overview to get started with the narrowing down process. It actually started off with a bit of a project looking to see if I could trace individual moneyers moving around between mints - but that then morphed into a couple of pages that would help with the identification process. This one shows the spread of mints, moneyers and class https://diadumenian.com/Congressofp...0_class.htmlwhere you can cross reference mint and moneyer to see what class it might be. There is a pull down list to make the table smaller as it is quite large. This one allows filtering by name - to see what mint or class that might be if the other details are difficult to make out. https://diadumenian.com/Congressofp...moneyer.htmlSame data just organised differently. Anyway - it was fun to do - and the new addition is below.
