2007 Wyoming Quarter, What Causes This?

dakrustyone New Member United States 2 Posts	Posted 01/06/2012 12:23 pm While roll searching (new to this) I found a strange "ghost" image in the field of this quarter. At first I thought maybe something got on it but it seems to run under the features. The ghostly image is shinier then the rest of the field. On the reverse it's much more noticeable, sure looks like shoulders and a head at the top, or the top of a building. Any ideas? Reverse Reverse Angled Obverse (has this shiny area too, but mostly covered by the portrait) Let me know if you need better pictures. Report this Post to the Staff

biokemist6 Bedrock of the Community United States 12437 Posts	Posted 01/06/2012 1:20 pm Your coin was struck through a thin layer of grease/oil. It is a fairly common occurrence and a heavier layer of grease would actually clog the die, causing a reduction in detail on the coin.
