1865 Half Dollar: A VAM Or Plain Destruction?

If it was a die cast error, I would assume it would be known by now. But since I'm a newbie, and curious...and not that knowledgable in the world of US coins and VAMs...please enlighten me Report this Post to the Staff

seateddime48174 Valued Member United States 161 Posts	Posted 03/25/2012 03:33 am that is an ex jewelry piece, once had a pin on the back. instead of trying to explain i'll just alter your pic. would have had a pin soldered to one end, then a clasp soldered at the other end that could be opened (the two "damaged areas" are what remains of the solder after the pin was removed) kind of like a modern day pin button. fairly common on Seated coins.
