1909 VDB - 2 Different Coins - Coin Community Forum

Weezer1878 Valued Member United States 349 Posts	Posted 07/10/2012 1:30 pm I was inspecting the pennies today and started paying attention to the two 1909 VDBs I have. One of them is a brighter red, almost shiny in hand. The other is a soft brown color. I noticed after zooming in on the brown one that the G in god is missing. What could this be from? Hard to tell from the pic, but the VDB is there on the back but the picture is taken from an angle and tmhe camera missed it. I'll see if I can get a close up of the VDBs on both. So, what grades would you give these? Why is the red one a little shinier? It also has what looks to be polish marks, but I'm new and can't tell. Report this Post to the Staff

The lack of the letter "G" or the whole word "GOD" as a result of Struck Through Grease strike commonly calls these "Godless" coins. They won't command any sort of huge premium if you were to sell them, but they will make a nice conversation piece. Report this Post to the Staff

I'm just trying to learn about what I have so I can tell my daughter what she is inheriting.
