doccholliday New Member United States 18 Posts	Posted 09/07/2013 01:08 am I'm fairly new at collecting coins and trying to figure out what coins have been cleaned or not. I have read that 20 to 30 percent of coins have been cleaned on ebay and probably the same elsewhere. Does this 1909 s Indian cent look cleaned, it does to me. Any ideas will help. Otherwise very possibly cleaned. Of course there is the possibility a coin never made it into a place where there was dirt of any kind. Just unlikely. Oddly enough the reverse does have dirt inside letters and noumbers and the shield at the top. Yet the obverse shows practically none. This could be from the habit of people a long time ago of spitting on their fingers and thumbs and rubbing a coin to make it look pretty. Regardless of cleaned or not, such rare coins are still worth keeping. Report this Post to the Staff
