1858 Or 1859 Canadian Victorian Large Cent - Error Coin?

dmdubose New Member United States 1 Posts	Posted 11/12/2013 3:51 pm I recently ran across an almost mint condition on the obverse side of an 1858-1859 Large Queen Victoria Cent and almost nothing on the reverse side. I know that the years 1858-1859 were the only years it was minted. And, according to my "A Guide Book of Canadian Coins and Tokens 1st Edition", this is the first decimal coinage for Canada. I am trying to upload the pics. Is it a fake or real? I can't believe that one side could be almost mint condition and the other side worn down to near nothing but a blank with a couple of letters visible. I wonder what is its worth, if any at all? zxcccxz Pillar of the Community Canada 5417 Posts	Posted 11/12/2013 4:52 pm Hmm such an error could exist but this isn't one of them. I say this due to the huge amount of rim wear and scratches on the reverse. Furthermore the wearing becoming more and more leads me to believe that this coin was part of jewellery or served a menial purpose. Report this Post to the Staff
nybird Valued Member United States 459 Posts	Posted 11/12/2013 5:50 pm Your coin has the obverse markers for a double punched 9 #1. A very valuable coin. In the Haxby catalog it is obverse 27, which was paired with two different reverses one of which is DP9#1. Ed Report this Post to the Staff

jg86 Pillar of the Community Canada 686 Posts	Posted 11/12/2013 6:14 pm Any chance you could weigh the coin? I'm thinking xzc was on to something. I think the reverse was likely sanded down a long time ago, which is why it's toning looks the same. Too bad. Report this Post to the Staff
