I was the underbidder, in the online part of the auction - but I was not even close - looks like a bidding war erupted on the floor of the auction... (Sold for $3500 plus buyers premium)... This is pretty darn high price for what is a 10-cent/1-cent error.... http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleN...otIdNo=75003"Discovery follows discovery, each both raising and answering questions, each ending a long search, and each providing the new instruments for a new search." -- J. Thats insane. That must a be a backdoor job. How does a fully minted 10 cent coin end up in the penny line so to speak. Which brings up the same questions as usual, can this be classified as an error and does the RCM even care this happens!

Like all cool errors there is always some questions of it's creation, if this wasn't smuggle out of the mint and found in a roll, we should just accept it as a nice error coin.

I wish I had bought it....but not at the selling price!
I did get a new toy at the Sept. TCNC sale today.
I will wait till I get it to talk about it.....I am looking forward to getting something that I am pretty sure was not catalogued to its best advantage.......

This type of error is not a backdoor job. But, WHY it was sold for that much? It is insane!
Is the market for errors that hot? Is it time to get the coins from the safe deposit and take them to a show? Will I FINALLY make some money in this hobby?

I have no ability or equipment to take pictures. To make matters worse my home puter died and I am stuck with a dumb iPad, a glorified crippled smartphone, a piece of ... mmmm ... equipment that does not allow uploading.
I will try something Monday, from woik. (Some of my coins were already posted by others)

Coin sold for $4,112.50 (including buyer's premium). I guess we now know where it ended up. Now, it is for sale on ebay, after increasing the price by an order of magnitude, then almost doubling that value.... http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...271311677454Interesting description - "private collection, no tax"...
