I wish I could take better pictures, but there's not much I can do about that right now. Anyway, how would you grade this?   With the coin in hand, I'd say it's AU, possibly BU, but I can't tell the difference between a lack of detail in the hair from wear, or from a poor strike. If I were to judge based on the reverse only, I'd say it's probably BU. |

As a non-series expert, I wonder whether you could get an uncirculated designation without a full liberty. The strike is definitely funky and it might not have seen circulation, but I'd be tempted to say it would be netted AU, but I honestly don't know.

The photos make the coin appear very flat-lit and dead. I'm guessing that's not really the case. I would say it's definitely an AU+ but need much better pictures/angles to tell. The strike seems average for the year.

I think this is a better picture of the reverse. I'm having real difficulties with getting a good shot of the obverse.  |

This one was in a first generation PCGS holder as AU-53 (before I cracked it out and put it in my 7070 album) so I will say that is about what yours is   |

I think poor strike on the obverse accounts for the lacking details, since the reverse looks so clean. It's AU-55 I'd guess, without having the coin in hand. The lack of balance between obverse and reverse might hold it back some. I really like this series, and have looked at a lot of 3 CN's over the past several months. Weak strike was a real issue, especially in the first years of the series. I certainly wouldn't mind having a coin like this in my collection.

Thanks for your input, everyone. I wish I could capture the luster of this one. It's really clean. The lack of detail on the obverse is a bit of a downer, but the reverse is almost perfect. The question now, is, do I get a new camera, or add to my coin collection? Yeah, I think I'll go with adding to the collection.  |
