West Virginia Doubling And Die Crack Quarter

Above the NEW RIVER GORGE letters is a continuation of the mountains on the coin to the right. The coin on the left looks normal. foundinrolls Pillar of the Community United States 3507 Posts	Posted 01/05/2008 8:41 pm it's still a scratch...keep in mind that 100,000 or so other coins whacked into it as they were falling into the huge bins that collect them after they are struck. They can get scratched anywhere during the minting process and anytime thereafter. Some scratches can look like something when we use our imaginations but they are still scratches. There's an outside chance that it is a minor die crack that developed along a weak spot in the die that looks like an extension of the mountain. Still, unfortunately , without value.
