This 1804 is in a problem free XF45 PCGS holder. The marks in the field are part of the die markings for the variety. The marks across the cheek and hair are scratches. I like the color and details on the coin. How do you feel about the scratches on cheek and hair on this coin? Is the coin graded and priced properly with the scratches? See link below:
The minor marks are not distracting and are clearly old. I wouldn't have a problem with it as a choice XF. With XF bid at $315 and AU at $1000, I'd hope to buy this closer to $400 or so. Have a look at some auction history in grade
Value is really going to depend on which variety it is. There are 13 varieties in 1804 and four of them are spiked chin. (One more is a spiked chin from before the obv die was damaged, that one is an R-7-) and the rarities range from R-1 through 4 (but I think the C-7 should be an R-5) That one is a C-8, the most common one. So Andrews price estimates may be accurate.
