My attention was first drawn to it by the strange area to the left of the Queen's head. It appeared too wide, and the circle of dots is onto the silver area. There is an edge motto, but it is very faint.

Yeah, very sloppy work, you should take it back to the faker and get a refund, or at least a proper looking fake coin.

Don't underestimate them, a very similar fake apparently by the same makers featured on the episode of BBC Fake Britain that was repeated on Wednesday night. It could only be picked out by human inspection as it was able to fool the best coin validator 100% of the time. This 'make' do vary a bit in the die and edge images and metals used, but some appear to use almost identical alloys to the real thing.
