Most sites I read say that the 35-s Peace dollar is common and usually found well struck. I know ebay is a small sample, but prices are high for these in mint state and I see quite a few with weak strikes. With a relatively high mintage of almost 2 million, prices seem to be high to me compared to other years/mints (the 1926 p for example with the same mintage is way cheaper).

Also I've read about the 3 and 4 ray varieties. Why did they switch to the 4 ray design? Is it actually more rare? Some sites say there's no premium while others say it is more rare. Peace dollars are one of my favorite coins, so I am just trying to learn more about them. Thanks!

Strike numbers are often misleading.
The key is how many are still in existence in each grade.
A lot of silver coins got melted in the late 1970's.
Catalog values/Auction results are better guides.

As for the ray varieties I can't help.

It is thought that the 1935 4 ray design used in San Francisco mint was due to use of a reverse die that should have been destroyed since the coins struck at Philadelphia were all the 3 ray type. The 4 ray variety is of approximate equal rarity with the 3 ray design.
