1941 D Lincoln Wheat Penny - Lamination Error Reverse?

Hi guys,

I have this 1941 D Lincoln Wheat penny and would like to know what is going on with the top portion of the reverse of this penny. The metal seems to be a lower height than the rest of the penny. Is this considered a lamination error?

It looks like a die crack to me.

Here's a better close up photo. There seems to be a ridge at the upper part of this penny and the metal changes color.

Certainly not a die crack. Appears like some form of long ago 'exfoliation'. Doesn't have the classic linear features of a lamination issue, but that doesn't necessarily rule it out. Others will weigh-in.
