I had to do some searching through my receipts and I did find the invoice for this coin. It was purchased on 9/9/91 from Coast to Coast Coins in Fulton, MD. Listed as 1896 Gem Proof and the cost was $159.00 There is no question that it is proof just that my pictures of it suck. I thought that it needed to be properly graded given the large swing in values from PF63 to PF65 and higher. I do expect it to be at the lower end of the scale like 63 or perhaps 64 but I also expect it to have a red designation. I was thinking of using NGC but I have to find a dealer who can submit it for me. Again I apologize for the poor pictures. Report this Post to the Staff

If you have some other small cents and US mint silver dollars (Morgan/Peace generally), you might find some better bang for your buck that route a single coin to NGC or PCGS. MisterT Pillar of the Community United States 2006 Posts	Posted 03/29/2021 12:54 am Coinfrog, Back in the early 90's I made quite a few purchases from Coast to Coast and I was pleased. I purchased mainly "select Unc" Morgan dollars. I would say most of them graded Ms60 because of bag marks but they were Unc and not some whizzed piece of junk or sliders. I don't know what Ken Pines did to get kicked out of the ANA but I do miss the groups of Morgans he used to sell. One exception was a 1921 Peace that was advertised as BU but I considered it AU. I see now that he no longer sells raw coins, only high dollar certified. Report this Post to the Staff
