Assuming you mean US half dollars, as they are the only ones I know of with the 1776-1976 dual date, and a P or D mint mark, these are still found in bank rolls fairly regularly in mint and near mint condition, hence the value of 50 cents each.

They are veery cool and halfs are how I got into collecting coins. If I were you I would try to get one from each year and mint mark. The hunt to complete a set is fun and exciting. Try it and you will see!

I am not too worried if someone breaks in and walks away with my common date Wheaties or the 1865 corroded and pitted 2cent piece. But I can pull these out and look at them every day if I want too. On the other hand, if I want to look at the gold or high end silver and other rarities that I have, I would have to go to the bank and get the safe deposit box out. I would not lose any sleep over the bucket of darksiders that has been sitting on my desk for some time now. I don't even know what is in that bucket yet.

So yes your Halves are worth 50 cents each, but would be a great start to a nice little collection Matt. That is if you would want to collect them. Those and even the occasional silver Half, Walking Liberty, Franklin, 1964 Kennedy, 1965-1970 40% silver Kennedy, and even, although extremely rare to find in a roll, Barber halves can all be had for face value at local banks. All you have to do is walk in and ask, 99% of the time they will be glad to hand them over.
