flasks New Member United States 0 Posts	Posted 08/08/2010 10:47 am This coin is one of several found during the demolition of an old structure. The other several coins were foreign which I didn't want so I just purchased this one from the finder and hope I didn't go overboard in the price. I am NOT a coin collector but do have several that I've found with my metal detector and yard sales . .. I would like someone to grade this coin for me and also give me an estimate of fair market value. I realize that a hole is common in many of these early coins. What I found unusual is that the hole pierced the lower half of the "eight" in the date so as not to affect or greatly detract from the graphics. All opinions are welcome. Thank you in advance. Before 1857 many "foreign" coins were legal tender in the US and they are very collectible. Report this Post to the Staff
Dcreek1968 Valued Member United States 314 Posts	Posted 08/10/2010 7:08 pm I agree on the EF-45 opinion. The hole does the number on this beauty. But, you're not the only one it to have encountered holes. I've seen them on beautiful large cents, gold pieces (wonder what they did with the drillings?), nice Barber quarters, just about any piece you can name. Report this Post to the Staff
