ksmcents Valued Member United States 306 Posts	Posted 02/26/2015 10:51 pm Not overall confident in grading these (1st one). I traded an EF+ RB 1909 LWC for this today. Got an acquaintance started on LWC's (his 1st) and I figured I'd start to branch out to Large Cents. I'm at VF-30 with a damaged Obverse...am I close? Report this Post to the Staff

Celticsoul Pillar of the Community United States 1566 Posts	Posted 02/27/2015 07:05 am I'll give it a market grade of VF-20. Too bad about the damage as this would be a great coin with out it. As a member of Early American Copper (EAC) I'll have to net grade it down 2 grades because of the damage giving it a net grade of F-12. This coin is die variety N-20 with a rarity rating of R.3 meaning it's fairly rare. My grade and attribution for this coin is 1854 N-20 R.3 20/12. This peaked my interest I'm assuming I start with reading John R. Grellman, Jr's book The Die Varieties of United States Large Cents 1840-1857? Or is there a better start?
