Hi Coin Community. After recently learning about distinguishing PL's from MS coins, supposedly by the thickness of the rim (I could be wrong), I decided to go through my collection of MS-66 loons...then this one stood out. So my question is...Did this coin get switched? Did ICCS drop the ball? Is this a PL or MS? Or is this really another technical MS-66 with no eye appeal? Thanks for your input as always!

Are the marks on the loon or plastic?

Hi John, which marks are you referring to? I see so many. But the plastic indeed has coin impression marks.
Rest in Peace

I'd be happy with the 66 assigned.

If those marks are on the coin there is NO way this is a MS66 coin.

these marks were on the planchet before strike and therefor are not considered damage. the coin was given strictly a technical grade.

It indeed appears to me the wide rim of your loonie matches that of a PL (NBU) and the MS grade is an error. But pictures can be deceiving, hand-in-hand comparison is more reliable. If it is PL, I have my doubts it was switched, instead an ICCS error - 2003 loonie thread.

Hi all, thanks for your comments so far. Here are 3x ICCS Graded MS-66 2005 Loons in order. The Loon in question (#3) certainly has a larger RIM size than the 1st two. Also, I noticed that the RIM on the obverse seems thicker than the reverse. Is that possible. PS, My real question is if the Loon in question is a PL or MS? Thanks
