Hi guys! In my current CRH, I found a 1976D Kennedy half with a reverse lettering issue (see attached two images). Independence Hall is missing the "Hal" of "Hall". Is this a grease-filled die strike (new concept I just learned)?

Do grease-filled die strikes have any value?

Thanks for your thoughts in advance.

Morgan Guy

I'm fairly sure this is indeed a grease strike. As for added value, I'm not an expert, but if I'm not mistaken it's more to be considered "neat" than valuable for sale. However, I have been hoping to find a Greaser from '76 that reads "200 ears of freedom". =p

In uncirculated condition it would have been worth a few dollars, but in the current condition, it's of very limited value.

An error half dollar for only 50¢ is a keeper in my book, but It's up to you. If you like it, put it in a 2x2 and save it.

You'll need to sneak up on that error coin. With that many ears it's gonna hear you coming!

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, and I think that error has some beauty. I would put it in a 2x2, and it would take more than a muffin and a coffee to wrest it away from me.

Thank you all for your helpful advice. It is indeed worth a 2x2 and the 50 cents it took to acquire it!
