if it isn't on the rim it isn't a Cud,it would be classified as a die chip or interior die break.

The distinction John is drawing is that typically a Cud is used to describe a chip on the rim that extends into the fields or design elements, while a rim Cud is used to describe a Cud restricted to the rim and nothing else. That said, kind of splitting hairs, and as far as I'm concerned, a rim Cud is a Cud just as a square is also a rectangle.
