I apologize for the picture. It's the only one I have. I'm sure most of you would spot a small date from 600m in a sandstorm with one hand tied behind your back. Thank you.

I find that the easiest way to tell the difference is in the "s" curve in the downstroke of the 2. If it is a fairly straight diagonal, its a large date. If it is squiggly (numismatic term), its a small date.

Just look at the shapes of the 8s - a very easy tell if 2 is in question.
