That looks like some pretty CHEAP packaging if it was meant to be a presentation piece.

Same cheap packaging the USM uses for all of the ASE's . . .outer sleeve, box, clamshell, COA. . .

I think it was pretty rotten of the mint to use the ASE to give to 'Team USA' - they 'SHOULD' have come up with a special design.
It completely ruins it for 'NORMAL ASE' collectors, knowing that they will NEVER have a complete set.

Because the packaging looks so "US Mint garden variety (cheap)", really makes me hope they were also made for sale.

Just quoting myself, that comment was made without a lot of time to elaborate.
My point is that if they were just/only made for these Olympians, that possibly they would have upgraded the OGP a bit. It would be interesting to do an examination of the last time the Mint used an actually attractive presentation of a coin. Has there been anything with let's say a wooden or lacquered box, in the last....10-15 years?
So maybe this isn't any real firm indication that more are coming. But if they were going to wow the recipients, they really missed the mark with this typical run of the mill box and clamshell.

The last one I know of is the gold buffalo. Don't have any but I like their packaging. Until at least 2016 it came in a wooden box with what looked like a leather wrap. I'm sure that wasn't leather but it was a nice presentation.
