Low Grade Classic Silver Coins - Really Hold Value?

harrison2 Pillar of the Community Mexico 1304 Posts	Posted 04/27/2011 5:41 pm The price of silver is getting so high, I can finally get some lower-grade classic silver coins for just above melt. I don't have an old red-book to flip through for advice...so, for those of you with the experience, am I wrong to think that a "G" grade Seated dime will always fetch about $4 even if silver dropped back down to $20 tomorrow? Are the "culls" really only good for junk silver? I ask because I'd hate to buy a bunch of dates then find out that I lost my shirt when silver runs off a cliff...that'd really hurt. (For those of you who advise me to hold out for higher grade coins, thank you for the advice, but I went down that road once and prefer not to.) Report this Post to the Staff

Danester Valued Member United States 213 Posts	Posted 04/27/2011 6:05 pm The rising tide of Silver prices lifts all dates. So, yes your idea to buy better dates at melt is a good one. If the price of silver drops, then those better dates will stick to the higher Silver tide marks. Also, now is a good time to group together Silver "odds and ends" lots, that maybe before would not have sold as well as in this market. Look at this odd lot I just listed on ebay.
