Help With A 1943 W Walking Liberty

On a trip to the scrap yard today, I opened a box in the pile and I found a 1943 W Walking Liberty half dollar. The coin was wrapped up and is near mint. Not a wear mark or scratch anywhere, but the "W" is where I got confused. Any help? Thanks Jim

its the initials of the engraver, under the tail feathers I think your talking about.

The mintmark is under the branch, more towards the lower left part of the reverse. If there is a D, means it was made in Denver, S means San Fransisco, no letter means Philadelphia.
