canadian-varieties Pillar of the Community Canada 1442 Posts	Posted 10/30/2011 10:53 pm I made it to my first coin show, the Torex Oct.2011. I did some hunting and here is what I managed to find. My most favourite find was a 1859 DP9 #3 in EF, for which I paid $250. There were several 1859 DP9 #1 and #2s that were mis-labeled, and the dealers had no idea. I also took: 1884 Obv 1 ICCS VF30 $320, 1888 double date MS63 $220, 1899 DP9 MS63 $150, 1894 DP9s for $30 each, 1888 large/small 8 $4, 1888 double last 8 $4, 1881H RP N $10. There wasn't much large cent material to choose from, but I was happy with my additions. Report this Post to the Staff

SPP-Ottawa Moderator Canada 10468 Posts	Posted 10/30/2011 11:52 pm I recognize the Sharpie writing on the 1884 coin, that is from Hugh Powell's table (Newcan Coins). I have always enjoyed transactions with Hugh, and I certainly like the eye-candy with some of his red gems. I traded Hugh several 1884 Obverse #1 coins last year (F to VF grade) and he wanted more. He says he can't seem to keep enough of them in stock... Edited: I forgot to mention that Hugh is one of the very few dealers who always appreciates learning something new from the collectors. I think variety collectors like yourself can probably appreciate that in a coin dealer.
