For someone just getting into paper money, what suggestions can you offer on what to collect? To be honest, I want to collect not only for the fun of it, but want to put money into notes that have a decent chance of price appreciation. I don't have a big budget to work with, and I don't want to just pull notes out of circulation for my collection. I also don't want to collect specific kinds of serial numbers. I'm thinking more about collecting star notes as of now, but what particular ones are in more demand than others?
small denomination star notes. most common are the 1 and 2. Consider the $1 FRNs, one from each year series star and non star. if you want to toughen the search, then do that plus from each of the districts. Get a book first though that'll help in your understanding of the subject.
The run information comes from BEP records and indicates how many notes were printed for a certain run of notes. The lower the run number the more valuable to a collector.
