Wellk, today I received the latest hockey puck that I ordered from the mint 0 Chickasaw. I'm realy pleased with the way that it looks. So now I have the first ten of the 5oz pucks.

At the present time, the best that I can say about my future plans to purchase anymore of these coins is that just don't know if I will continue to spend the money on this size. The premium that is currently being charged is holding me back on continuing to purchase. If this series does continue it means quite a substantial investment.

I agree with basebal21, they should have minted all of the US parks on the coins first before they mint the territories. Why are these coins being minted in the order they are currently being minted?

Nevermind, found my own answer to my question.........

Release Schedule
Each year, the public will see five new national site designs depicted on the reverse (tails side) of America the Beautiful Quarters. The United States Mint will issue these quarters in the order in which the honored site was first established as a national site.

I can't figure the order. I thought I had read in order of when they became a NP but that's not the case. Maybe they were picked out of a hat!! I don't think they should be mixed up either. As an aside. I just read an email I get about many disappearances in National Parks and most stay out of the news. On a radio show at 1 am in the east and I get a daily email

Teach the problem is that the order is not true. Yellowstone was the first NP and Hotsprings was the first issued? Maybe first for each state? But not in order anyway by state neoither alpha or first made NP etc

Hey Angel,

I just copied and pasted what I found on the mint's website about the order. I have no idea if they were right or not. Does anybody else want to take a guess on why the order is the way it is?

Think its a Mystery. Maybe the hat. Maybe the first park in each state but no order to states?

It is not the order in which they became a national park (many are not parks), it is the order in which they were "first established as a national site". The difference is minor but important and is why the hot springs is first.

Yellowstone was the first national park but the hot springs was established as a national site before that. Some of the national parks became sites of national significance before becoming true national parks and many of the sites are not national parks at all. They may be historical sites, military sites, etc. The Arkansas Hot Springs was established as a national site in 1832, long before Yellowstone became a national park in 1872. The springs did not receive national park status until much later.

Anything is possible, but the Mint will sell these as long as they can make money

The collector puck showed up finally in some marketing material. If you got the Mint's summer catalogue, all 5 collector pucks are listed inside. They are being released in order:
NP1 Chaco, 7/09
NP2 Acadia, 8/13
NP3 Volcanoes, 9/24
NP4 Denali, 11/05

I'm sorry to say, but the mint just lost me on this series. I feel that I'm being sprinted to death by their fast releases rather than going for a jog. This make 7 5oz coins they are releasing this year. I'm out of the game of chasing these pucks - no matter how good the design is.

Ghost I am kind of the same way. Theyve mishandled these so badly I've really been turned off. I may pick up the next 4 but think I will pass on these especially if they insist on charging such a premium. I'm not in any hurry to pick them up anymore at the very least
