Does anyone know if RAM has plans for a release next month for the seventieth anniversary of the bombing of Darwin. I couldn't find anything on their website.
there's plenty of publicity here for the 70th, but nothing about coins. I saw some proposed designs at RAM when I was there last year. It seems like the sort of event that ougfht to be commemorated ...
My Grandfather would havre appreciated a memorial medal for the blowing up of four of his prize chooks by a Japanese submarine!
He died way back in 1964, but in 1942, he was living in Vaucluse, Sydney. A shell from a Japanese sumbarine exploded in a nearby neighbour's backyard as a diversion to the raid in Sydney Harbour by Japanese midget submarines. His chookyard was showered by shrapnel, and killed four of his prize chooks. According to his daughter (my mum), boy was he MAD!
Before WW2, you could have chooks in Vaucluse, nowhere near as exclusive as it is now.
He considered suing the Japanese government after the War for compensation!
quote: "Before WW2, you could have chooks in Vaucluse, nowhere near as exclusive as it is now." - it was the chooks that made it sought-after. Haven't you noticed that it's gone off the boil since the chooks moved to better areas ?
