Slabbed coins arent my thing but I entered to certification number into the NGC website and it came up as described in the listing AU-58 Melbourne Florin. I dont know if this proves anything but have thought it was a start.

Personally I don't buy ANYTHING over $100 on ebay. Even $50 I think twice. Unless you're 100% sure of its authenticity I would be taking your $500 to a dealers shop and spending it there. At least you have a better chance of returning it if there's any issues.

I'm with enworb, if possible try and get one from a dealer. If you live near the Sydney CBD, I can recommend some places which should carry them.

If I were able to sell on here I would sell you 1 of mine for that price but it would be a lot better,if you want to spend that sort of many hunt around &be patient, you will pick up an uncirculated raw coin for that money.

Slabbed coins seem to attract a premium. Unless you're dead set keen on a slabbed coin appleangel is right, a raw coin will be in far better grade for the same money, plus you get to display it any way you want.

Hi Belly & good to see you.

As you can see people Belly is a great Florin enthusiast & a good bloke.

demerest,As you can see from ADMISLSE's price list you would have paid $100 to much for that grade coin,if you take your time & choose wisely you will get a much better deal.
If your heck bent on buying a slabbed coin then I think your much better off buying a higher grade,i know they are a lot more expensive but they gain a lot more each year iykwim.

getting a slabbed coin is no guarantee that it is genuine. You just have to look at a thread on a fake slabbed 1946 Penny in this forum. Even if it is genuine, slabbed coins are usually horrendously over priced.

My suggestion would be to purchase it from an ANDA dealer on ebay. There are a lot of fakes of this coin around

Mobofroos has an extremely good point, slabbing is no guarantee of authenticity. Grading companies grade tens of thousands of coins per year, so it is possible that some fakes slip through the cracks. Also, most grading companies primarily specialise in US coins and not world coins. If I were you, I would buy the coin off an ANDA member as previously suggested or a reputable local dealer who specialises in Australian coins.
