Well known contemporary counterfeit, but in unusually nice condition. Probably German silver (Cu Ni and ZN) alloy and at the current price ($21) probably too cheap. I would think in the $40 to $50 range. I like it.

If this were genuine, and the double die is authentic, it would far surpass $50. I personally don't like buying coins raw on ebay, but at a price this low, I would definitely say it's worth the risk. Plus: there is a return policy, so if you were to purchase it, you could go to a coin dealer and get their opinion on it. |

It's not a doubled die, it's just a repunched U. And this is one coin that you HAVE to buy raw because no TPG will slab it because it is a counterfeit. |

Haha, I had no idea these existed. I LOLed immediately when I saw how horrible and crooked the date, shield and star are... was this done by a 5 year old?! HA!

Maybe it's a Confederate counterfeit! The misshapen shield and star is almost comical. I wouldn't want it.

If you study what these are and how and why they were made, it's actually quite interesting and they do have some decent value for what they are. I think the $60 that this went for was a bit strong, but I've seen them sell for between $25-$85. I'm still a buyer at the lower end of that scale. |
