inside of the O in one looks wrong, the .U. in australia seems to be closing up.
the R and second G in George also dont look right.
bit hard with the fuzzy pics but 2 or 3 denticles dont appear to line up as well.
top of the crown also seems to be ofset in those pics.
i didnt ask for auto spell check/change, why does it not let me post a capital you (.U.) without changing it like it did there<<

Yes Apple it does look a bit dodgy.I compared it to my 3 and with mine the letters are all the same which is flat and without the indentation but it has fooled a lot of people if it is fake

1923-Halfpenny,-Genuine-?

The picture in the ebay posting isn't detailed enough to be able to tell what grade it is let alone whether it is genuine.

When in doubt though, have a read of this

Always need to look at these things in the hand with a loupe, before buying.

If I had one and wanted to dispose of it to a dealer or auction it, due diligence HAS to be followed by the dealer or auctioneer.

Looks OK in the pictures, but I simply would not be interested in it to buy.

I have been considering buying one of these. My question is, if I were to buy it through a big auction house, eg Roxburys or Status - it would be certain that they are selling genuine coins, wouldn't it?

if I was buying a coin like this from someone, I would want it verified by someone who is capable of knowing, and defiantly not from an auction house unless I had great trust in them.

I am looking at buying one at downies etc early next year now. The major auction houses would be very safe.

I'd check anyway, but I don't think they'd risk their reputation like that.
But then again, this happened: https://goccf.com/t/126544

..of course, its buyer beware with Coins off any seller but with the leading established Auction Houses you are fairly safe.As I posted elsewhere fake 1923 Halves & Sovereigns were plentiful in post WW11 Australia and they're still out there somewhere.
Then of course there's always a bargain buy on ebay..

Obviously "gem, nearly proof". Any idiot could tell you that -or, at least, some idiots.
Maybe he put the decimal point about two places too far right on his starting price?
