Did they give you any idea what their price will be on the $5 coins? I guess they are probably waiting to assess them first but I'm curious if they gave you any clue.

Every time I asked a question the sales lady put me on hold. I assume she was asking management if she could speak about the release. I assume a good premium on top of current RCM prices. Let's say 15-20%. They are getting both $5's and $10's.

on previous comment made error on the number of sets, the RCM had 140 sets orginally for sale . if you call now they only have 120 for sale I assume that the selected dealers has cherrypicked the best 20 sets.

Not necessarily. I know one collector here in Ottawa who ordered 5 sets.

All I know is that people who spent considerably more money on the the premium hand selected coins are putting a lot of faith into the mint's very generic language.

I beg to differ. These will be very good coins. Of the 450 bags, 374 of those were untouched, and only moved twice in 100 years (from the RCM to the Bank of Canada in 1935 and back to the RCM in 2011). These coins were not chosen by just average mint employees. How I know this, I cannot say at this time...

I think there will be some real pleasant surprises, and it may bring out the bigger players in terms of registry set hunters for a Canadian gold market. Once the dust settles, prices will be established on the upper echelon of grades, without the speculation of hoards (e.g., like the 1916c sovereigns). The next few years will be exciting for the chasers of the best coins... although, it will be tough to top the PCGS MS-69 gold coin I held in my hands at a show-and-tell at the nearby pub at CoinExpo this past September.

Well, if you have inside information that these coins will be very good quality, then that will apply to the hand-selected coins as well making me still believe that they will be a better bet. There are a lot more potential buyers of lower priced coins. The market gets a lot smaller for coins priced in the $1000s.

if all hand selects grades ms 65 you cannot use the old trend for future pricing there are 30000 new better graded units in the population, only the top graded maybe ms 68 or 69 will appreciate in value depending on its #. take a look at 1935 ms 65 dollar it trends at 300 to 400 its an easy year to get a high grade.

I guess the mint's policy on limit 3 per customer doesn't mean much.

Probably.

These coins likely created several hundred (or thousand) more master's club members and duplicate MC accounts so it will be interesting to see the effects on subsequent releases of hot coins (GITD Dinos, Venetian bugs etc etc).

I think we'll see a lot more MC sell out coins in the future, unless the RCM changes the process.

The RCM should have different classes of masters club members. With coins like these, it's not hard to be a mc member. There should be a step up at $2500, $5000, and +$10000. With so many members, it be nice if the higher paying members had exclusive deals.

So, the RCM turns into the Air Canada (Aeroplan) of the minting world? (Prestige, Elite, Super Elite)... I dislike that idea...

I agree - and darn all those Star Alliance members getting on the plane first ;).

It's been a thousand dollars for a long time so maybe they need to increase the amount to be eligible.

it takes me out then :(, I would have not hit MC status without this release but if they give first dibs and exclusive releases before dealers it's worth it IMO.
