pdmw New Member United States 9 Posts	Posted 02/04/2013 3:41 pm Nope, the weight of the coin is 2.8 Grams, A nickel weighs 5 Grams. It is pretty thick around the edge but I am sure it is not struck on a nickel. Report this Post to the Staff

biokemist6 Bedrock of the Community United States 12437 Posts	Posted 02/04/2013 3:49 pm The dime is encased in a bezel, you can see the broken attachment point under DIME. It is also worth noting that a dime cannot be struck on a nickel planchet because it would not fit in a dime collar, off-metal errors can only go down in size(cent struck on a dime, nickel struck on a cent, quarter struck on a nickel, etc). pdmw New Member United States 9 Posts	Posted 02/04/2013 3:56 pm Okay, the sides are all sealed with only the cracking you see on the reverse, So if someone put a bezel on it, it just wouldn't make sense since it is sealed. I am not a professional, but just a guess. Is it worth checking to see if the rim is 90% silver and not clad? Report this Post to the Staff
mds308 Pillar of the Community United States 1721 Posts	Posted 02/04/2013 4:06 pm If you look at the image of the reverse, the base of this image (on the bezel) has what appears to be the remains of something broken off like a key chain ring. I'm on board with biokemist6 that this coin is set into a bezel ring. The chipped area at the base of the reverse would have had an attachment that would allow the coin to hang obverse side up.
