I hope the tourist isn't a coin roll!

That's awesome! I would be too shy to ask to exchange money from a stranger

I got an old American bill buying a pass to the American Museum of Natural History. I received it back side up and noticed that it looked a little different (had I not been paying attention I would have missed it, but I had to pay attention because I don't want to get wrong change) from the usual $20s and I looked at the date. It was a 1981! I would say low VF, not bad.

O-train wants to cash US coins for US dollars, they don't do that here. The bank accepts US coins at par.
We can trade a box of US coins for a box of Canadian ones, but o-train wants to take advantage of the exchange rate I believe.

yes never going to happen in Canada, coin is coin, and is not treated like bills..you can't deposit US coins into a us account, only bills. Best bet is to take your rolls of usa coin with you when you go across the border, then find a bank and cash it in then. The banks will use a powerful magnet on any usa nickel, dimes, and quarter rolls, if the magnet sticks, they refuse the entire roll, so make sure you have no canadian coins in any of these rolls..

the reason I make such a crazy offer is really a selfish one
you send me coins..i get to dig through them and check dates
I go to bank anyway to exchange coins, yours would be just more of the same..
i also get a friend in another country, THAT could prove to be very useful for coin collecting.

no they do not use a magnet in the banks I go to.
I get a minimum 1 canadian penney in every 10 rolls of pennies.
when I go to the bank, they check nothing, just exchange roll for roll
when I go to a different bank, [I use 3]
I am required to write name and phone# on roll
I do not put the correct #...not because I did anything wrong. but because I do not want my # out there for anybody to call.

they might do the magnet closer to the border
I am WAAAy down south in Mississippi

Good information everyone. I wasn't hopeful about turning US coins into US currency in Canada but it sure would be a nice little bonus. If I had to guess I get about 10% US pennies in rolls now. It seems to be going up as of late. Usually my oldest find in a box is American.

What service offers the $5.80 priority small box frodo? I sent Canadian pennies to one of the US members here through Canada Post and it was quite expensive.

Searched 10 rolls of pennies.

Took me a couple of seconds to recognise this poor little guy.

When I found it, part of me wanted to scream for joy finding this, part of me want to scream just because it looks ruined.

Well here's yesterdays finds. It's getting harder and harder to find banks that will give me coins without opening an account

1 1966 Canadian Nickel in really nice condition
1 1940 Canadian Nickel - hole filler, now I need 38 and 39
1 1960 Silver dime
1 1964 Silver dime
2 Panama Un Decimo(s)? 1960 and 1980
1 2 English 5 Pence
1 1971 Swiss half Franc

Today...
1 Silver 1968 dime
1 1967 Centennial Rabbit

Great couple days!

LOL, I have opened up accounts now at 3 different banks, and I am thinking of opening another, however my mortgage is up in September, and I probably should wait until after to open any more. I was told it would come up on your credit check, its not a bad thing, but could be construed the wrong way.

Very very nice! You found silver from Panama in Canada (Panama coins are exactly like American coins - decimo = dime, before 1964 = silver). I am still dreaming of such an excellent find.
