Environmental damage. It will happen. Depends on the soil conditions. Just a normal 2004D clad dime otherwise.

Sorry to say that it is typical for clad to turn this color in some soil types. I have a quart jar full of clad coins like this one that need to be tumbled to remove the color so that they can be rolled and returned to circulation. I wish I had better news for you, just keep your coil to the soil and someday you make a nice score.

Happy Hunting. The thaw has finally arrived in my area and I can not wait to put the coil to the soil and get my season started. I have been so jealous reading all the finds that MDers have been making to my south.

Good Luck.

If it was in good shape you could check to see if it had any errors but it looks a little rough. Good Luck with your metal detecting; would like to do it someday.

Thanks everyone, went out to day and found allot of coins. So maybe I just might score. lol. I found this little park here in San Antonio you can tell it has never been hunted before. Every time I go there I walk out with like 100 coins. Some are pretty old so its just a matter of time. Anyways thanks again. SEE YA LATER.
