I collect key date coins and some gold coins, but I do it as a hobby, not as an investment. If they do make money in the end, then it's just icing on the cake. I have bought and sold modern commemoratives, and I have yet to make a substantial profit. I usually buy them, then get bored and sell them so I can buy another one. Lately I only buy what I want to keep. With the high mintages, there is little money to make on these, unless you were lucky enough to buy a few of the low mintage dollars.
