Thanks guys. Nearly all red seal (USN) stars of any denomination before the 1953 series are tough in higher grades.

CK - Yes, for sure. I have lots of CGA notes and try to cut/resubmit one or two every time I send a batch to PMG, with pretty good results so far. But "cracking" is a riskier bet in paper money than in coins, imho.

It's more complicated than that. I tend to pay less for CGA notes and expect a lower grade (not always) on resubmission to PMG, so it comes down to price paid plus re-grading costs compared to market value in a major holder. Often this is minimal but sometimes the upside is enticing. Big question: should you let the next owner make the choice?

Recently got a $1 note from my dad's "collection" of odds and ends of coins, etc. Will try to post a photo if it's a decent date / number worth looking at ... It is series 1969 D serial number is J00000123*
