Just went through a stack of bills from the bank yesterday and found a 2013 B 04895017 star note. Pretty good condition, not a rare star though.

Bryan78's 2013 $20 Boston star is run #2 Oct.2016 3.2M.
These I keep until I find a nicer example, or until a cash emergency emerges...then it morphs into a spender.

Thanks for the info Steve. I keep ALL star notes regardless of condition. I put them in my extreme emergency cash envelope.

 So according to star notes series A 2003,this should be a star note, but it's not. Confused, have any you guys seen this before |

as I remember, (please fact check me) all 2003a series $2 stars were Atlanta...that is a SF note....not sure what your question is? someone here (expert) will answer for you

 So new to star notes, but in banking the serial numbers should never be 2 the same. Unless counterfeit, this is not that. |

When you include these, then there aren't two serial numbers that are the same for the same denomination and series of note. Star notes are not direct serial number replacements for the misprinted/damaged notes or sheets they replace. It can happen, but it's just serendipity if it does. Since your note's serial number (L00180118A) falls within the range of the star note serial numbers for San Francisco, there will be corresponding star note with serial number L00180118*. Occasionally, you'll see the star/non-star pairs together (see this topic http://goccf.com/t/324526 ). |

@WW, star notes are (as we all know) replacement notes. BUT they don't keep the same serial number as the note they are replacing (and just replace the trailing character with a star). That would be far too much time and effort on the part of the BEP, so the numbering is completely independent. Ergo, you could (and probably do, as you proved above) have both L00180118A and L00180118* in circulation. edit: BadDog beat me to the punch, but  .  Edited by CelticKnot
