Been awhile since I have been here let alone looked at a box of nickels. So DylansDad and I were roll searching Sunday night. Was down to 6 missing dates, 2 of them were '50 and '50D. Half way through the box not only did I find my '50 straigh, found 2 in the same blasted roll. Was a great night searching...

My usual bank was out of nickels that I haven't already searched through, so I visited a branch a few minutes further down the road. They did not have sealed boxes, but were willing to give me $100 of whatever they had lying around. What I got was a smattering of at least 7 distinct types of wrappers, including two machine-wrapped Dunbar rolls. The first several rolls were a disappointment, and I figured I had hit my only find of the batch when I found a '44-P War Nickel. I was wrong. I received four ENTIRE rolls of what had obviously been someone's collection: a smattering of almost every date and mint mark from 1938-1959, with the vast majority being 40's and early 50s. I didn't keep the collection rolls separate, but here is the total count: 1938 x 2 1939 x 6 1940 x 6 1940-D x 4 1940-S x 3 1941 x 15 1941-D x 2 1941-S x 4 1942 x 2 1943-S silver 1944-P silver 1946 x 9 1946-D x 2 1946-S x 3 1947 x 2 1947-S x 2 1948 x 4 1948-D 1948-S x 2 1949 x 2 1949-D x 6 1951 x 7 1951-D x 4 1952 x 7 (one is XF) 1952-D x 6 1952-S x 2 1953-D x 5 1953-S (Hole filler!) 1954 x 3 1954-D x 4 1954-S x 3 1955 (Rare!) 1955-D x 3 1956 x 5 1956-D x 3 1957 x 2 1957-D x 3 1958 1958-D x 5 1959 1959-D x 4 1960 AU x 2 1960-D AU 1962 BU 1963 BU x 7 (all are gold-toned) 1963-D BU The rest of the rolls contained a surprising number of BU later-date nickels. Both War Nickels were found outside of the dumped collection. Miscellaneous: 1968 Canadian 1985 Canadian 2005 Bahamas 1975-D nickel with hole drilled in it... it used to be part of a necklace or something (part of dumped collection) 1978-D penny (A bonus! That roll contained $2.01!) |

10 rolls tonight, found a few keepers for the 7113. Now have 109 holes filled.

box 13: no silver, only 22 pre-1960 (a record low). However, 1 nice 2005-S bison proof, and a 1936 buffalo (pics posted here: https://goccf.com/t/97823 .) This is my 3nd box in a row with no silver, hmmm. But I'd rather get a buffalo than a silver nickel, so I'm happy with this box. Edited by robbudo

Searched a box last night. Found a nice BU 1966 and a 2005 Turkish 25 Cents.
No silver for the past 3 boxes. :(

I did $40 of CWR nickels - no Buffaloes, or key dates. Best finds were both foreign. One a coin of Middle Eastern origin, (whose writing I can't make out), and a 20 Kopek Russian coin minted in 1909!

Nice find on the 20 Kopeks. It's hard enough to find US or Canadian coins that old let alone a Russian silver coin....

Box #30 down!  And it was a great box by the way! I also did 2 customer wrapped rolls so 52 rolls altogether by the way, these were my first CWRs of nickels silver-1943-S  (finally!) thats 30/27-in other words, 30 boxes and 27 silver War Nickels! no buffs no V's no hole fillers semi key dates- 1958 1952-S 1949-D 1948-S 1946-S 1942-CuNi 1941-D 2009-D 2009-P foreign- 5 canadians, 1988 singapore 20 cents this calls for a dance party!      |

By the way, in the same box I found a 1983 Cud! Nice little Cud covering FS and the empty space there. |

Did my first box of nickels yesterday. Nothing too exciting still going to look through them a little better for errors but it seems I dont have much patience for that. This is what I found.
