Nice finds all!
Finished a box yesterday-- 1 fish nickel... and that was about it. Unless what I think is a black beauty is true. Date matches. I metal detect and it is not any kind of environmental damage I have seen. Not saying it isn't home made though. Looks like it is in good condition. I'll try to get a pic this weekend.

Just finished a box, pulled 2 1943-P's.
At family members house over weekend, discussing coins and they said they had some change to take to the bank. Had 1 roll of nickels and inside was a 1943-S. Couldn't believe it.

Correction to a previous post:
I found a 1935s buffalo, not a 1934s buffalo. That was a typo.
Two boxes over the weekend:
1947p in great condition and an undated buffalo.

I did about six dollars worth of nickles I picked up on my way home from work all I got was 1986 Canadian nickel in my final roll so not a complete skunk

the bank only had $40 worth of nickels today.
16 pre 1961
2 hole fillers (44D, 52S)
1 upgrade (49D)
1 Buffalo (1937)
also the second time I found a 1939 and was hoping for a mint mark, but no luck.
72 rolls searched far

hey everyone! great to see some new names here on the nickel searching thread! I'm hoping Christmas vaca will give me a chance to do some boxes, but what with college and rock climbing (now my new addiction) I am hard pressed for time. Good luck to ya'll and happy thanksgiving!

After reading for a few months I was inspired tonight to post tonight after searching the best box I've had -- 3 dateless Buffs, a 36-D Buff, 43-P, and a 43-S. also 15 other pre-60s.

Cracked a new box last night and did 6 or 8 rolls. Pulled a 1942-D which is a hole filler as well as a 1939 that was almost mistaken for a 60's or 70's coin. Very clean with little wear. Lets hope the mojo continues throughout the box!

One box of nickels - 36, 40-D, 41-D, 2x43-P, 43-D, 45-P , 46-D, 2x51, & 57.
Four war nicks in a box is a new best for me and the 36 Buff is AU/XF.

Never done any serious nickel roll hunting, but might like to get into it. Obviously I'd keep all pre-1960 Jeffersons, but my main target would be Buffalo nickels. In your opinion is it worth looking for buffs in particular? How many are in the average $100 box do you think? I might become a casual nickel hunter along with my very serious cent roll hunting effort. |
