Been a while since I've posted something to this thread, but I wanted to share something that I picked up the other day. I'll give it about 24 hours to post the solution, but I'm thinking that you folks will figure it out well before then. This is a rectangular, uniface piece with "1/4" appearing twice on one side, along with an oval. It is magnetic. The dimensions are 15 mm by 20 mm and the weight is 6.77g.

6.77g is very close to 1/4 oz but not quite. Otherwise no clue. Here's one I found on the floor somewhere. Not difficult to guess generally what it is.

Quote: 6.77g is very close to 1/4 oz but not quite. Yes great point. The weight is relevant to the piece I posted. At first I was thinking that yours was part of a needle threader, but I now see that those aren't completely round.

Mine is just a bangle that probably fell off my kid's costume or something from years ago. I think I found it under the couch and I have no idea where it came from. Images are deceptive because the right side image is incuse - it's thin cheap metal and just stamped straight through from one side. It looks like a coin but isn't.
I wonder if yours is for balancing a wheel or similar. I know they pound little things into the rim at a tire shop for balancing but I don't know what they look like.

Spence, yours looks like a wheel weight but those are usually lead. I'm mystified.

Ok yes it is a wheel weight. The ones that I'm used to seeing are lead and have a little clamp to crimp onto the rim. There is also this other type which is pictured and I believe is basically stuck on the rim using an adhesive. Here is a link to one similar example being sold by Harbor Freight: https://www.harborfreight.com/1-4-q...s-67225.html

Evidently their adhesive wasn't strong enough if you found it! Here's one that looks much like a coin. 32.3 mm, 12.88 g, non-magnetic. Sorry about the hair.

Earlier in the thread there were pics of manhole covers, etc. They reminded me of this classic from New Orleans. These are no longer used - they were frequently stolen and used as decorations.

Ho ho, I saw the title of this thread and said to myself: That's what TOKENS are! But I guess not, so here's my contribution...random key chains rescued out of years worth of tote-bag swag from entertainment-industry trade shows my wife used to attend regularly. Full disclosure: I've cropped off the dangle thingies to make them look more coin-like...) My bad.

Unfortunately this coin-like object came with the hole in it, but it would still make a pretty neat key ring, don't you think?(It's been places and seen things...)

The other side of mine. It's a key tag from The Greenbrier, everyone's favorite resort and secret government nuclear shelter!
