Even as a long-time SD collector, I have no interest in these over-sized "coins." I will stick with the SDs of traditional 36mm size. If/When the RCM moves away from this standard (e.g., starts striking the SDs on larger one-ounce planchets), it is very likely that I will consider my SD collection complete and will stop adding to it.

Quote: Apparently the Mint and cdncoin are trying to sell this series as a set in the form of subscription. If the Mint and Steven Bromberg are smart, they should make the last coin (the penny) exclusive to the subscription only, that for sure will give people more incentive to stay in the subscription. The set: It looks like they will sell these from the 1 dollar down to the last which is the penny. Checked the RCM site. 1-cent: Your final coin re-creates the classic 1967 one-cent circulation coin design by Canadian artist Alex Colville, and features a full front profile of a rock dove in flight on outstretched wings.

Yes, I wonder that others who are not avid SD collectors realize the sheer quantity of 36mm NCLT that RCM has already released. It's not a collection on a shoestring, that's for sure. As well it's still 2016 but in 2017 36mm SD collectors know to look forward to the regular silver Proof Set, the Special Edition Proof set with 2017 coinage, perhaps a 2nd Special Edition 1967-2017 set, usually one or two single SDs and the Silver SD only set. Add a $$$ SD Big Coin, budget overload for many.

I cancelled my TSC order. They changed the description to be the subscription without a doubt. Not interested in this as a full set.
There are going to be sooooo many 150th Anniversary items. I'll save what's left of my coin budget for some more unique items that they'll hopefully be coming out with. I was only really interested in the Goose coin because it's the iconic coin (IMO) from that 1967 set. This will be a nice set but for the money, I can't justify it after buying the Coat of Arms 1kg coin.

It's possible more singles will be offered for sale after a certain period of time, if not all the subscriptions are sold. That would seem a fair way to do it - first sell as many in sets of 6 as possible, then sell the rest as singles.

Just called TSC regarding Goose SD that I placed order on Oct 1st.
TSC staff told me that this is one time payment of $560, no automatic charges for rest of 5 coins.
It is getting more and more interesting...........
Staff told me that coins are about to ship out...... if I do not like them, just return coins with TSC's return label ( no need to pay CP postage yet )
TSC will charge me $10 on return shipping postage and refund rest of balance.

Staff told me that coins are about to ship out Does this mean that due to TSC mistake, that price for the sub will be CAD 560, and all 6 coins will be received soon?

@Silveroid
TSC staff was also confused..
She told me that looks like $560 is for whole 6 coins set because if a customer bought a subscription coins, TSC system should showed " automatic charges for rest of the coins "
But 2017 Big Coin subscription showed one time payment. No other charge has been setup.

I think the discussion trend implies that purchasing the 6-coin subscription is a mistake, that is, the only good investment is in the SD. It is easy to forget on this forum that many, if not most of us purchase series because we like collecting coins, while hoping that they retain their investment value. Further, in this particular instance, the size of the coins and the gold plating against the silver greatly showcases the fantastic art by one of Canada's most famous artists, Alex Colville, much more so then the original 1967 set. Indeed, it was his art that attracted me to this particular coin set. It is an expensive set in my view, but then, I set aside dollars to take advantage of some of the 150th anniversary coins I expect to see released this year. I see that the comparative investment for the 1967 centennial coin set with gold coin sells for about $900. I wonder what it was sold for by the RCM in 1967.

Wow. $40. Then again not surprised as gold was about $35 per ounce in 1967. Regardless, whomever invested in the 1967 coin series with gold coin has ended up with a pretty good return.

I also note that the number of 1967 coin sets with gold coin was 337,687. This is a consiiderably more than the 2150 sets produced in 2016.

And considerably more than the zero sets produced in 2015. In all fairness, very little can be compared to fifty years ago. In 1967 963,714 Uncirculated Sets were also sold, coin collecting was a national Canadian pastime and it was known to be the final year of silver coinage.
