I recently was fortunate to acquire an honest to goodness REAL Seated Liberty dollar. MikeF is tickled pink that I can now replace the fake one in my 7070. Here they are side by side. this may be a good time to learn some signs to look for in a fake, hmmm?
of course, the most obvious to note on the fake one(1864) is the font of the date is just all wrong, size, placement. then I noticed the denticles were off as wer some of the stars. When comparing color, the pix shows real close to in hand, the dull grey of a cast metal passed off as patina.
Oddly, the rims were a bit wider on the faker, the reeding was a match...hmmm, as was the diameter. Then I decided to compare the reverses and flipped them over...
