I know these mintmarks are hand done and these are small mintmarks, but this 78 is extra small. I'm sure smaller is out there.

Interesting question you are posing. With a few notable exceptions (e.g. the "micro S"), I thought that the mm punch was pretty standard in size and it was the choosing of the location on the die that was done by hand.

I have noticed for many years now that 1978 D has small and large sized mint marks. Did some research a long time ago on it and found nothing. I still keep the ones that are in really nice condition though,never know.

Thanks Spence, learned something new,I'm a newbie. This coin is in good shape so I may keep it. I have other 78 d coins but they have larger mintmark.
