1943 Steel Penny Weighs 2.4 Grams? - Coin Community Forum

Rabbithole1 Pillar of the Community United States 520 Posts	Posted 11/02/2018 6:12 pm I am a bit perplexed by this 1943 steel cent. It is magnetic..it looks almost goldish compared to my other 1943 steel cent..but weighs LESS? I weighed my normal 1943 cent and it was 2.7. I assumed this was a plated steel cent..but when it weighed in at 2.4, it left me let me take a couple of pictures for referance Report this Post to the Staff

Spence Moderator United States 34464 Posts	Posted 11/02/2018 8:52 pm @rabitthole1, of course anything is possible, but the much more likely explanation is that your cent was a slightly underweight, lightly circulated '43 that was plated at a later date (sometimes called "reprocessed") in an effort to make it look extra shiny for unsuspecting collectors.
