In addition to New Zealand, Samoa got it's own set of coins.
Again the 1 to 50 Sene were circulation and the 1 (Tasi le) Tala coins were one off celebration pieces.

Again it was 2 Tala to £1 and 1 Tala = 10 shillings (Sefulu sileni)

Samoa's head of state from 1962 to 2007 was Malietoa TanuMafili III and he was descended from a long line of Samoan kings. The Queen of England is also recognised.

This will be the first and only time I post Samoan coins as there are none before 1967 - so enjoy

Faafetai alofa!

In the last dying seconds of 1967 - sorry just such a huge year for my coin collection and Jimi Hendrix's career.

1967 UK halfcrown virtually uncirculated - last year of issue besides a 1970 Proof version.

Just the first of many of my UK hlafcrowns coming up!

Last pair - a stunning pair of Hong Kong low values dated 1967.

I was lucky to buy a collection assembled in the late 1960s and it has quite a few AU/UNC Hong Kong and Malaya coins from the 1960s.

Hong Kong coins of this era always survive worn being used in the markets etc. These are shiny and I was happy to get for mere pennies a coin, being common base metal - but they look so nice uncirculated!

You will also see later the dollar so nice, it cut my fingers on the edge!

I will be doing 2 submissions for 1966. One now and one in a few hours.

In Feb 1966 Australia switched to Decimal currency and issued a set of 6 coins with the 50 cents being 80% silver.

They issued 36 million and circulated a bit until they were almost completely hoarded out of existence in 1967 when silver prices went up. No more were issued in 1967/68 and in 1969 a twelve sided cupro nickel coin was issued, which is still being issued now.

1966 coins are incredibly common and most are like this one - EF - AU and even MS state.

It will be the last time I show a Machin reverse, as we head into Gillick territory (The effigy of QE2 on the 1967 UK coins)
