and this is a very well circulated 1888 but I noticed the little lines in the eights like the one in the book but I don't know

Hi Colleen,

I think the effect you see there is called "Longacre doubling"
by the way , check this reference on doubling.

On the 1888 check to see if there is a projection from the neck bead, and a die crack on the back.

with Desertgem. The features within the date of your 1888 are interesting.
Like said above, if I can see the whole date and necklace area, I'll take a closer look.

The 1873 is definitely Longacre doubling.
